Most of my trips are solo, and my recent trip to Barcelona was no different. Technology is a great passion and my job, but one of my other passions is Photography, which is why I always try and choose places that I can take lots of photos.
It was an 7am flight, which meant an early start to get to the airport. Everything was going smoothly, got to the airport in plenty of time, put my suitcase in the bag drop and headed upstairs to the airport security, which it where things changed from being smooth sailing and became quite the ordeal. I put my things in the boxes and headed through the scanner and it beeped, was very confused why as I hadn’t anything on that would cause it to go off, so I had to be patted down. Thinking that was it, I went to get my bag and that was sent for searching, thankfully it must have been an error as they didn’t need to search it.
Skipping on a couple of hours, it was ready to check in and board the flight, I had the window seat and nobody in the middle seat so that made the 2 hour light easier. When I arrived in Barcelona it wasn’t the weather I was expecting, it was very cloudly, but very humid. Down the steps onto the bus to the terminal passport control. The passport control was so busy, it took about an hour to get through, it was so long all the suitcases were off the collection belt. I headed out the airport and was looking for a taxi, I didn’t realise that you couldn’t book an Uber / Bolt instantly in Spain, you have to wait 15 minutes, this taxi driver approached me and so hopped in the taxi and headed to my hotel in Badalona. I couldn’t check in until 3pm, so left my bags in storage and headed to get some lunch and start exploring the area, by then the weather had cleared up and it was blue skies and sun.
When I did check in, I was on the 11th floor and it has a fantastic view, you could see the mountains one side and the beach the other side over all the buildings. I watched the sunset from the window every evening it was beautiful.
On the Sunday, it started off as cloudy day, but soon cleared again to 30 degree heat with blue skies and sun, I decided that I would explore Badalona, I walked along the sea front and then walked up into a park and looked over Badalona. I ended up walking back down to the sea front and walking along in the opposite direction and just kept walking along until it was late. I ended up doing around 30,000 steps.
The Monday was a raining, so I decided that I would explore the museums in Barcelona, I jumped on the train and headed in, it was 15 – 20 minute journey. I went to the White Rabbit: the Off-Museum of Barcelona, it was a strange museum but a great experience with VR, Immeservive art to learn all about Barcelona. I went onto go the Egyptian Museum, it wasn’t the best museum I have been too, but it was interesting to see some of the artfeacts. I then went on to visit the Maritime Museum, which had some fantastic exhibitions.
On The Tuesday, I went back into Barcelona and explored a different area and walked through a different park, which had a Zoo at the end of it. I thought it was going to be a small Zoo, but it was actually quite big and a various different animals, creatures etc. The rest of the day I carried on exploring the area and walking down the seafront and just taking in the amazing views and breathing in the sea air.
On the Wednesday, I spent most of the day just sitting by the sea in Badalona to relax.
On the Thursday I made a trip to Montserrat, it was an 1 hour train journey from Barcelona (thankfully there was air conditioning on the train). I got to experience going in a cable car, which I’ve never done before and went up to Montserrat itself up into the mountains, which was so high up and just wow to the breathtaking views (You can see some of the photos I took below).
On the Friday, As it was the last full day of the holiday, I spent most of the day just sitting by the sea in Badalona to relax.
On the Saturday it was time to return home, an early start, all went through smoothly and waited for my flight home. It was the quite the shock to the system when I landed I was wearing shorts and tshirt, which wasn’t suited for the UK weather.
Overall it was a fantastic time, very relaxing and I did over 100,000 steps. It is a beautiful place to visit and I highly recommend it.
Here are some of my photos that I took below:
